Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has commenced a three-day working visit to China, arriving in Shanghai on Tuesday. The trip is designed to bolster bilateral relations, enhance trade, and expand cooperation in emerging technological fields between Malaysia and China.
During his visit, Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia’s finance minister, will engage in several key events and discussions. He will participate in the WorldSkills Conference in Shanghai, where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address. Following this, Anwar will travel to Hangzhou to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday, focusing on strengthening economic and technological collaboration.
In Hangzhou, Anwar will also attend the Fifth Global Digital Trade Expo, where Malaysia is recognized as one of the Guest Countries of Honour. The prime minister is expected to emphasize areas such as artificial intelligence, digital trade, and international cooperation during his various engagements.
China continues to be Malaysia’s largest trading partner, a position it has held for 17 consecutive years. The strong economic ties are reflected in bilateral trade figures, which reached approximately US$113.82 billion from January to August this year.
Anwar’s itinerary includes meetings with Chinese business and technology leaders, aimed at encouraging increased foreign investment into Malaysia. The visit underscores the mutual interest in enhancing economic ties and exploring new opportunities in the digital and technological sectors.
