Just as the US-China trade war flares up again, President Donald Trump is predicting a “fantastic” summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“We are gonna be (having) a fantastic meeting,” Trump said in Tokyo on Tuesday. He confirmed the “big meeting” is set for Thursday in South Korea, during the APEC summit.
The flare-up is serious, ending a recent period of calm. It includes a US threat of 100% tariffs from November 1, which came in response to China’s new export controls on rare earths.
The dispute has also seen the US add new port fees, sparking a wave of countermeasures from China.
Despite this, Trump’s outlook was positive. “I think it’s going to work out very well, actually. It’s gonna be great for everybody,” he said.
