Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, Nguyễn Minh Vũ, recently led a delegation to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Vietnamese localities and northeastern Cambodia. The visit focused on assessing Vietnamese business activities in the region and understanding the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community there.
During discussions with local leaders, both parties explored opportunities to expand collaboration in areas such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces through various cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development initiatives. The province of Kratie expressed appreciation for the advancements in diplomatic and socio-economic collaboration with Vietnam, particularly highlighting infrastructure support and joint efforts in locating and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers from the wartime era in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ lauded the efforts of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that these ventures have significantly contributed to local economic development and fortified bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities pointed out the province’s promising potential in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese businesses to consider investment opportunities in these areas.
The ambassador also engaged with members of the Vietnamese-origin community, addressing legal and livelihood challenges they face while advocating for adherence to local regulations and support for educational and sustainable development initiatives. Vietnam’s investment footprint in Cambodia is substantial, with over 200 projects totaling approximately $3 billion in registered capital, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s most significant foreign investors.
