During the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called for intensified global action against terrorism, particularly focusing on militant groups based in Pakistan such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). They emphasized the need for accountability for those involved in terrorist activities and highlighted the significance of combating terrorism in all its forms.

The leaders’ joint statement condemned the terrorist attack that occurred in Pahalgam last year and recognized the UN Security Council Monitoring Team Report from July 29, 2025, which included references to The Resistance Front (TRF). Additionally, they strongly condemned cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan and urged coordinated international efforts against all UN-designated terrorist organizations, including Al Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and their affiliates.

Modi and Takaichi also addressed the Red Fort blast in New Delhi from November 2025, calling for swift justice against those involved in the attack’s planning, financing, and execution. They stressed the importance of sustained international collaboration to combat violent extremism and enhance security measures against terrorist networks globally.

Beyond addressing security challenges, the summit was an opportunity to reinforce and expand the strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan. Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed Takaichi on her first official visit to India as Japan’s Prime Minister, referring to her as a visionary leader and affectionately calling her his “younger sister.” He highlighted the deep historical and cultural connections shared by the two nations, noting Takaichi’s roots in Nara Prefecture, a region that shares a Buddhist heritage with India.

Prime Minister Takaichi, acknowledging Modi’s remarks, expressed their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral ties “as brother and sister.” Her visit, from July 1 to 3, led to the announcement of various initiatives aimed at enhancing collaboration in strategic, economic, and cultural areas. The summit underscored the enduring partnership between India and Japan, focusing on regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
